World Cup Final, Windham NY

My travel partner Nic Leary and I took the long drive down through Vermont and the city of Albany NY to a really nice skiing district in New York state for this weekend World Cup Final.

Our first look at the course was a reasonably wet one, caused by consecutive days of rain and drizzle. But the weather came right yesterday and the track is drying to the point where its kinda like that bluetack consistency, which is the point where rubber and dirt at at their most friendly.

The course contains a long, but not steep climb, broken up by small slightly descending sections in the trees. Kind of like a 3 steps up, one step down scenario to the top of the course. Then it dives off the high point to finish the lap with a fast, again not very steep descent via a mixture of ski run and rocky single track.

It all pretty elementary, even in the wet. But I like it and am confident of a strong race. I had to hold back during todays lap, I wanted to open it up but new I had to keep the cap on until tomorrow. I also had to resist the temptation of doing another lap.

The race begins in the town tomorrow and heads out to the ski hill via a short section of road. An interesting start, and one that will require some concentration and keeping out of trouble.

oh yeah! road sections and MTB'ers are a BAD combination if the start of the Motu Challenge is anything to go by... keep yourselves out of trouble and give it heaps!!!

Looking forward to the post race writeup.
