Carolyn and I have been lucky enough to be given the use of Jackson and Rose Greens older tandem. Cant beleive they go mountain biking on it, but road riding is great. The first thing you realise is how little momentum it carries, any slight rise in the road will mean youve gotta push a lot harder to keep it rolling.

Last weekend we tackled a pretty hilly route, with a 15min hillclimb, talk about strength training. There is really no opportunity to alter your speed on climbs because you cant get out of the saddle easily and accelerate. Therefore its all about rythm and plugging away in a reasonably big gear.

Carolyn likes a slower cadence than I do, so its a definite strength workout for me. Its nice to be able to do some different type of training and still get a lot of benefit out of it, probably more so than on the normal bike.

I would recommend it for anyone who is wanting to imporve on hills (everyone), as it takes so much more effort to keep the thing moving.

You look like you're suffering while Carolyn enjoys the view and waves to the crowd!

I've asked Stu to replace the back pedals with footrests, but for some reason he hasn't yet. I must be contributing at least some power! :-)
